Rescue Story
Anubis has been in kennels far too long, and it shows in his struggle to gain weight and maintain his spark. He was surrendered through no fault of his own, simply because his excitable puppy nature was a little overwhelming for the small children in his previous home. Despite this setback, Anubis remains a goofy, playful young dog full of potential and love. Thanks to an incredibly dedicated volunteer in kennels, who has been taking him out regularly for walks and socialising, heβs starting to learn the crucial skills he needs to thrive in a family environment.
Detailed Information
Anubis is very excitable, curious, and absolutely loves to explore the world around him.
A wonderful volunteer has been dedicating time to take Anubis out of the kennel, socialising and exposing him to new experiences. Here is her update:
“Just a quick update for everyone following Anubis! We had a great time this bank holiday weekend, getting him out of the kennel for the day and taking a trip to a local event in Sandringham! This was a much-needed experience for Anubis to place him in a busier environment where he had a real opportunity to interact with people and lots of other dogs, whilst still having space to avoid feeling overwhelmed.”
“Anubis was given the time to stop and take in all the new smells and we met lots of different dogs where he was able to do everything from calmly greet another female Doberman to jump and play with a lively collie! What was really important for Anubis was to start to learn initial boundaries and social skills that every young dog needs to thrive.”
“We also did some first-time work using a halti β although definitely still underweight for his breed (sadly he is still struggling to gain more weight living in kennels) Anubis does pull on walks, so at an event like this it was ideal to pop the halti on him and give him some guidance whilst allowing me to have more control directing him. After just 10 minutes Anubis responded brilliantly! Some dogs will frantically try and remove a halti with their paws (itβs not a miracle fix for all dogs!) but Anubis took it in his stride and I was so proud of how well he adapted.”
Anubis understands several commands such as sit, paw, come, and relax. He is fully housetrained. His ideal home would provide him with firm, consistent training, lots of exercise, and plenty of mental stimulation to help him become the calm, balanced companion he longs to be.
π For Anubisβs wellbeing, we strongly recommend a home without other dogs or with female dogs only, as he can be reactive to males. He cannot live with cats.
Ideal Family
Anubis needs a patient, experienced family familiar with the Doberman breedβs energetic and protective nature. A home with older children (13+) who understand dog behaviour is essential, as well as a family committed to ongoing training and socialisation. Space to run and decompress will help this young lad truly settle. Most importantly, he needs a family who can offer him stability, love, and a chance to regain his health and happiness outside the kennels.
Anubis is a gorgeous boy who deserves every chance to flourish in a loving, stable home. His playful spirit and affectionate nature are waiting to be fully unleashed by a family who understands his needs and is ready to guide him patiently. With the right support, Anubis will repay kindness with boundless loyalty and companionship. Letβs help him find the warm, caring home he so truly deserves.
