We received an urgent plea to rehome ATLAS, a British resident dog. He lived in a flat without a garden alongside three cats who are not friendly towards him. While his family loved him dearly, their work schedule prevents them from giving ATLAS the attention and walks he needs. The ongoing tension between him and the trio of cats in such a small space is also adding to the challenge. Wanting only the best for their sweet boy, the family made the difficult decision to seek a new home where ATLAS can thrive.
A few weeks ago we was moved to one of our amazing fosters and this is what she is saying about him: “is good on the lead. Been OK passing other dogs but I have kept a distance. Bit grumbly when meeting new people but he’s just unsure and hides behind us.
I think he may have been used to eating the cats food. I’m still struggling to get him to eat. Tried him with turkey and rice yesterday which was a bit better. If I mix some dry dog food (not his) with a few cat biscuits he picks out the cat biscuits first. He has started eating a couple of treats now but probably as he must be hungry. He isn’t food motivated.
Only issue is not liking being separated from us. He literally follows me from room to room and gets very anxious if he can’t see/get get to me. I think he will get better in time as he builds trust but don’t think he will ever be a dog you can leave all day. It would be helpful to know details from his previous home, if he was left, for how long and what the set up was. So far the only chewing and destructive behaviour is when he is separated.”
ATLAS is a cuddle bug at heart. He loves to snuggle up with his humans, whether it’s in bed, on the couch, or wherever feels cozy. He’s happiest when he’s near his people, but his possessiveness means he sometimes struggles to share that love with the household cats. For this reason, a home with no cats or one where cats are gradually introduced would be ideal. ATLAS does well with children and is happy around them, making him a great companion for families.
He’s used to be walked on afternoon and evening, walks well on an extendable lead and loves his time outdoors. ATLAS has never been off-lead at his previous home and this is probably another reason why he was getting quickly bored at home: allowing him to run free in secure fields should help him a lot to burn excessive energy. He would do best in a home with a garden where he can explore and relax in his own time.
Though he’s always been a good boy, he was attacked by another dog a few months ago (with no fault from him own), which left him anxious on walks and wary of other dogs. This trauma has made him growl in situations where he feels scared, but he’s not aggressive – just a bit unsure and needs gentle encouragement to regain his confidence. ATLAS is looking for a fresh start with someone who can patiently help him regain his trust in the world.
ATLAS struggles to be left alone, as he is very much companion dog.
ATLAS is a sweet boy who needs a patient, loving home. He would benefit from a calm, steady household, ideally with a garden and perhaps another friendly dog who can show him the ropes. With love and guidance, ATLAS can blossom into a loyal, playful companion who will reward you with endless affection. If you’re looking for a dog who’s full of potential and love, ATLAS is ready to be your perfect match.
