Rescue Story:
CHARA’s journey is one of sheer survival and hope. She was only a puppy when her life was nearly swept away by the catastrophic flood in Kherson, a city in Ukraine devastated in June 2023. When Russian forces destroyed the Kakhovka Dam, the region faced a massive surge of water, sweeping through homes, streets, and animal shelters. Local rescuers and brave volunteers risked their lives in the dangerous waters to save animals in desperate need, and it’s nothing short of a miracle that little CHARA was pulled to safety just in time.
CHARA made it out of those rising waters and has been safe in a shelter ever since, waiting for a home to call her own. Despite all she’s endured, she holds no fear of water—she loves it, in fact. Every summer day, she’ll gleefully play and splash, carrying the spirit of a Labrador but in a wonderfully compact size.
